Student Opinion Forms (SOF):
SOF Report by Google Gemini: The U.S. Naval Academy utilizes a strictly qualitative system; quantitative metrics are not collected. To provide an equivalent assessment of teaching quality, this document summarizes qualitative data across three years synthesized by generative AI for objective thematic analysis.
SOF Dataset Excel File: Compiled SOF responses from all past semesters of teaching (Fall 2023 through Fall 2025, inclusive). Note: USNA operates on a June-May academic calendar, Fall academic-year 2026 is actually Fall calendar-year 2025.
Formal Teaching Observations:
Paired Peer Observation Report (February 2026): A formative requirement for promotion and tenure and conducted by tenured professors and certified by the university’s Center for Teaching and Learning.
Formative Analysis of Classroom Teaching (March 2024): The goal of the FACT process is to assist faculty members with their own reflective teaching by providing them with anonymous mid-semester feedback from their students. FACTs are conducted by a trained consultant from a different school of study.
Supplemental:
The Strafing of Bravo Nineteen (Fall 2018): Reflection on instructional development as a student through instructor in the F/A-18 Super Hornet.
