Working Papers & Works in Progress:
“Financial Literacy Amongst High-Performance Leaders: The State of Financial Literacy at the United States Naval Academy” with Karah Jaeb, Greg Mcknight, and Harrison Rosenbaum - The US Naval Academy student body was surveyed to be financially literate at at a rate of 71.5%, according to well established methods. Analysis of determinant variables of such a highly financially literate group of students shed light on the sources of financial literacy.
“Standardized Military Financial Literacy Surveillance & Interpretation” (Unpublished Procedural Instruction): This survey is a consolidated list of questions that appear on the FINRA National Financial Capability Study (NFCS) and the Office of People Analytics (OPA) Status of Forces Assessment (SOFA). The two-dimensional interpretation of financial literacy and military investment literacy allows for military training commands and operational units to gauge military readiness. Endorsed and adopted by the USAA Educational Foundation.
“Filling the GAAP in Personal Finance: Incorporating Personal Accounting in to Financial Literacy Education” - Financial literacy education has struggled to produce financially literate outcomes. This paper argues for the importance of rudimentary accounting as a critical yet missing component of financial literacy education. (work in progress)
“Sunk Shipbuilding Cost Fallacies: Cost Trends and Implications from Department of the Navy Shipbuilding Budget Materials” - This paper analyzes official U.S. Navy Shipbuilding budgets over five year periods of forecasted, appropriated, and adjusted costs. Initial results show substantially increased costs when the quantity of assets procured decreases or increases from the initial budget, with various lag effects. Further statistical analysis shows the US Naval fleet will continue to decline in hull numbers through at least 2032, with the average age of US Naval vessels aging from an average of 13.1 years in 2000 to 17.1 years in 2025. (work in progress)
“Measures of Shelter: Housing price comparisons between Military Housing Allowance, Consumer Price Index, and American Community Survey” This paper compares and contrasts military basic allowance for housing (BAH) data to CPI and ACS housing data in an effort to identify trends and lags between all three federal measures of shelter. (work in progress)
Dissertation: “An Examination of State & Local Government Tax and Non-tax Revenues and their Sensitivities to Economic Fluctuations”; Dissertation Committee: Gary McGill, Andy Naranjo, Johannes Impink (under revision for submission to a journal)
Academic Courses:
My appointment to the US Naval Academy included building two new introductory finance courses. These courses are descendant from the 1980s when the Naval Academy had a Department of Management, and had not been offered for years. I structured both of these courses to be financial literacy courses, or accounting, finance, and investing for non-major courses, with a overall objective of conveying 'The most agreeable volume of financial knowledge expected of Naval Leaders".
Both classes begin with the principles of accounting and finance to establish financial literacy. Financial Markets & Institutions then focuses on the debt instruments & securities, basic portfolio theory, and introductory banking. Financial [Statement] Analysis then focuses equity valuation and analysis.
Academic Advising:

I was born in Toronto, Canada and raised in Champaign, Illinois and Kythira, Greece. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 2008, I was commissioned into the United States Navy and attended flight school in Pensacola, Florida, where I was selected to fly F/A-18 Super Hornets.
Joining Strike-Fighter-Squadron 154, I deployed aboard USS Ronald Reagan in 2011 and USS Nimitz in 2012 & 2013. Flying in support of Operations Tomodachi, New Dawn, and Enduring Freedom, I was awarded an Air Medal in 2013 for combat action over Afghanistan. In 2014, I was selected to instruct new and returning aircrew in the F/A-18 at Strike-Fighter-Squadron 122, and later chosen to remain in the squadron as a perpetual, part-time instructor through the Naval Reserves. Over the course of a decade in VFA-122, I completed over 700 instructional sorties and over 100 aircraft carrier arrested landings with new qualifying pilots.
